20 GETTING STARTED SCHOLARSHIPS The range of scholarships o ered by the Business School re ects our links with industry and our commitment to investing in our students -- the business leaders of the future. We award them for many reasons, including to support the special needs of high academic achievers, students who are particularly active in the community, students who excel at sport, high-achieving students from disadvantaged backgrounds, students from a rural or regional area and students who have experienced serious nancial or other disadvantage. Scholarships can make a real di erence to your time at uni, and play a key part in your academic and personal success. They o er signi cant nancial assistance as well as public recognition of academic talent and outstanding personal attributes. They help to relieve nancial concerns and free up your time to study, gain valuable work experience or get involved in the University's outstanding student life. The Business School provides more than $2 million in scholarships each year to support our students to achieve their academic and career goals. On top of this, the University o ers more than 500 di erent scholarship schemes for undergraduate students -- the most comprehensive and generous scholarship scheme in New South Wales. A scholarship can mean the di erence between having to work to top up your Youth Allowance or being able to focus wholeheartedly on your studies (as well as on other interests to balance your academic life). There are many scholarships available, and here is an example of the di erent types that we o er: -- Dean's Undergraduate Scholarship in Business -- awarded to applicants with a minimum ATAR (or equivalent) of 99.50 and outstanding achievements in public speaking, leadership and community involvement -- currently provides $15,000 a year for the duration of your rst business degree plus an honours year. -- University of Sydney Business School and Sydney University Sports Scholarship for Outstanding Academic and Sporting Achievement -- awarded to applicants with outstanding academic and sporting achievements at state or national level -- provides $10,000 a year for up to four years (including an honours year).
